If you've searched "Rhino greenhouse" or compared greenhouse brands recently, you've probably found Rhino Greenhouses among the most recommended names in the UK. They deserve that reputation — they make a well-built aluminium greenhouse, they've been at it since 1999, and their Trustpilot score (4.6 from 152 reviews) is one of the best in the mid-market.
Waldenhaus NORDIC is a different product. Not better, not worse — different in material, aesthetic and construction logic. This guide explains exactly where those differences sit so you can decide which is right for your garden, your plot, and your budget.

The short answer
Choose Rhino if you want a traditional British-made aluminium greenhouse, prefer glass glazing, have a budget of £1,200–£2,500, and can wait 4–8 weeks for delivery.
Choose NORDIC if you want a Scandinavian-style timber greenhouse with polycarbonate glazing, prefer a warmer aesthetic in the garden, and want delivery in 5–14 days from £1,499.
Who makes them and where
Rhino Greenhouses (Greenhouses Direct Ltd, Companies House 03031819) are made in Norfolk, UK, and have been manufactured there since 1999. The "British made" badge is legitimate, not marketing copy.
Waldenhaus NORDIC is manufactured in Poland from FSC-certified Swedish pine and shipped to UK stock. The design intent and engineering are Scandinavian — galvanised steel nodes, screw-fixed polycarbonate, pre-cut numbered panels. Waldenhaus is a UK brand, UK-stocked, UK-warranted.
Both are D2C: sold direct, not through B&Q or garden centres.
Frame comparison: aluminium vs FSC pine
Rhino uses heavy-gauge powder-coated aluminium throughout. Their Premium range adds T-section bracing at each eave and ridge strut, which improves rigidity. Aluminium doesn't rot, doesn't need re-treatment, and will outlast most gardeners.
NORDIC uses 45 × 45 mm FSC-certified Swedish pine with 1.2 mm galvanised steel brackets at every node joint. The steel angle brackets (not plastic corner clips) are what give the timber frame its structural integrity — the pine itself carries compression, the galvanised steel handles tension at every junction. The frame requires re-treatment with a wood preservative every 2–3 years; the 10-year anti-rot warranty is conditional on this.
Both are structurally sound. The difference is aesthetic and maintenance philosophy: aluminium is maintenance-free; pine is lower maintenance than glass-and-cedar alternatives but needs a half-day every few years.

Glazing comparison: 4mm toughened glass vs 4mm CrystalLight polycarbonate
Rhino glazes with 4mm toughened safety glass using rubber-bead retention. Rubber-bead is meaningfully better than spring W-clips — glass panels are locked in rather than sprung in, which reduces blow-out risk in high winds. Rhino claim 80mph+ wind resistance on this basis. Glass gives roughly 90% light transmission and a traditional appearance.
NORDIC uses 4mm CrystalLight cellular twin-wall polycarbonate, screw-fixed at every panel edge. Key properties vs glass:
- Light transmission: ~90% — same as glass
- Thermal: U-value ~3.9 W/m²K vs single glass ~5.8 W/m²K — about 33% better heat retention
- Impact: polycarbonate does not shatter. Hail, football, falling branch — no glass shards
- Weight: PC panels are approximately 70% lighter than glass of the same area
- UV layer: co-extruded UV-blocking layer on the outer surface; 2-year polycarbonate panel warranty (manufacturer defects)
Glass has a crisper optical clarity and is more scratch-resistant. Polycarbonate can show fine scratches over years, though the twin-wall structure means surface scratches don't reach the inner chamber. Both are valid glazing choices for a UK hobby greenhouse — the decision usually comes down to aesthetics and whether you have children or live in a high-wind area.

Assembly
Rhino supply an illustrated instruction booklet. Assembly typically takes a full day or a weekend for two people; the aluminium extrusions and glass panes require careful handling and accurate base preparation.
NORDIC panels are pre-cut and numbered. Each piece has a corresponding step in the illustrated guide with a QR code linking to a video. Two adults, one weekend is the realistic estimate — no specialist tools, no concrete base required (ground anchors are included). The polycarbonate panels are lighter than glass equivalents, which makes overhead work noticeably easier.
Lead time and delivery
Rhino: typically 4–8 weeks from order to delivery. Their manufacturing is UK-based and made to order.
NORDIC: typically 5–14 working days to UK mainland. Stock is held in the UK. Kerbside delivery as standard; two-person delivery to your chosen spot available as an upgrade.
Warranty
Rhino offer a 25-year frame warranty on the aluminium structure — a strong commitment made credible by 25+ years of trading.
NORDIC offers: 10-year anti-rot frame warranty (conditional on re-treating timber with any UK-purchased wood preservative every 2–3 years) + 2-year polycarbonate panel warranty (manufacturer defects). Full terms are published on the product page before checkout.
The Rhino aluminium warranty is longer. The NORDIC timber warranty is conditional on maintenance. If you want a completely maintenance-free structure, Rhino wins on warranty logic.
Trustpilot and customer reviews
Rhino: 4.6 / 5 from 152 reviews (Trustpilot, May 2026) + Feefo Platinum 4.9. Reviewers consistently mention quality of the build, good customer service, and satisfaction with the aesthetics. Assembly complaints are mild compared to lower-market brands.
Waldenhaus is a newer brand (launched 2026) — Trustpilot reviews are being collected from first customers. We can't claim Rhino's review count or score history; we're building ours.

FAQ
Is Rhino better than NORDIC?
Neither is categorically "better". They are built from different materials (aluminium vs timber) with different glazing (glass vs polycarbonate). Rhino suits buyers who want a traditional British-made aluminium greenhouse; NORDIC suits buyers who want Scandinavian timber aesthetics with polycarbonate. Both are well-engineered for their category.
Is NORDIC cheaper than Rhino?
At equivalent sizes, NORDIC is comparable in price. The NORDIC 8×6ft starts at £1,499; Rhino Classic 6×8 starts at £1,199. For larger sizes, NORDIC offers more floor area per pound at the mid-range: NORDIC 8×10ft (24 sq ft) at £1,599 vs Rhino Premium 6×8 (48 sq ft) at £1,749+.
Which is better in UK storms?
Rhino's rubber-bead glass retention is solid — their claimed 80mph+ resistance is credible for rubber-bead aluminium. NORDIC's screw-fixed polycarbonate (each panel bolted at every edge) eliminates the spring-clip blow-out failure mode common in cheaper greenhouses. Both are engineered for British conditions; neither has the catastrophic failure pattern seen in spring-clip Halls or Palram designs.
Does NORDIC need planning permission?
In most UK residential gardens, NORDIC falls within Permitted Development rights — under 2.5m eaves height, under 50% of garden area covered, not in a designated area. See our full guide: Greenhouse Permitted Development UK.
How long does NORDIC take to assemble?
Two adults, one weekend. Panels are pre-cut and numbered; no specialist tools required. See our assembly guide: Greenhouse Assembly Guide UK.
